1227.0. "Log files look to be corrupt, extract fails" by CSC32::B_GRUBBS () Wed Mar 06 1996 15:07
DUNIX 3.2c
PCM 1.6 ECO 1
Customer had a 17Mb event file built up for a particular machine
and when he tries to extract events from just a few days ago
till the present, he gets a message:
No log data since specified time
ok, so we try to verify and repair the log files and this is what
we see. Looks like major corruption in the log files:
console -V pcmhost -R
POLYCENTER Console Manager
Verify facility Version V1.6-127
Copyright (c) 1995 Digital Equipment Corporation. All Rights Reserved
Starting Host pcmhost
Loading : /var/opt/console/logs/pcmhost. fileset
Test 1 : ** FAILED **. too many timestamps for available data
Test 2 : ** FAILED **.
Test 3 : ** FAILED **.
Test 4 : Passed.
Test 5 : ** FAILED **.
We archived and now newly created events are viewable with extract
but still nothing from the old files.
What causes this and can they be repaired?
thanks,
