1223.0. "Cannot REVIEW from CONSOLE$ARCHIVE" by 11773::BDOWNEY () Fri Mar 01 1996 08:50

    Hi,

    I'm working at a customer site, where we have been running VCS since
    V1.1 thru upgrades to V1.4, while expanding to 2 systems to handle more
    than 32 console lines. We have recently upgraded to Console Manager
    V1.6 and applied versions from the network to bring it to V1.6-129. We
    are running on a VAXstation 4000-90 OpenVMS V6.1 monitoring 82 systems
    and ready to add 10 more as soon as the wiring from their console ports
    to terminal servers can be completed.

    I was disapointed that the REVIEW function did not work the same as in
    VCS with /BEFORE and /SINCE qualifiers to limit the range. Now I
    discover that the REVIEW function cannot find log data that has been
    archived to another disk pointed to by the CONSOLE$ARCHIVE logical.

    Log data is archived each Midnight, to keep the previous and current
    days, using the commands:
      $ archive_date = f$cvtime("yesterday","absolute","date")
      $ console archive/noconfirm all /before="''archive_date' 00:00"

    I can see from the entries in this conference that there are more
    serious problems to work on, but if you can help solve this one I would
    be forever grateful ;-).

    Have you tried using CONSOLE EXTRACT fromn the DCL command line? This
    command is what is necessary to examine historical log data. This
    command will look at both the current logfile and the archive logfiles.

1223.2Yes, but...11773::BDOWNEYMon Mar 04 1996 08:3410
    Yes, EXTRACT works exactly as advertised. REVIEW does not.

    I don't mean to nit pick, I just would like to see PCM work a little
    more user friendly and include some of the nicer features from VCS.
    Another would be the need to type only enough characters of the
    system name to be unique, rather than the entire name. You get the
    idea ;-).

    Respectfully,
    Bill

    You'll be pleased to know that this is one of the design goals of
    the next full release of PCM.

1223.4Thanks...11773::BDOWNEYMon Mar 04 1996 16:1213
    I am _very_ pleased that the next full release will contain many
    enhancements. I know you are very busy with ECO2 for V1.6, but do you
    have a target date for V1.7 or whatever? Is there a wish list note?

    And, Ok, how about dinner and a few brews? Or maybe just send money.
    ;-}

    I'm used to abuse. Boy, am I ever. :-}

    Thanks for you time,
    Bill

    I don't have the authority to answer this question.

    When a formal phase 0 announcement is made all will have the
    opportunity to post requirements.
