1214.0. "CONSOLE STATUS Causes Access Violation PCM v1.6-127 & PCM v1.6-129" by 42326::BARTLETTD () Tue Feb 27 1996 11:24

Hi Everyone,

I have a customer with the folowing configuration;

      -> VAXStation 4000 Model 96
      -> OpenVMS VAX version 6.2
      -> PolyCentre Console Manager 1.6-127

When my customer attempts to complete a CONSOLE STATUS using any of the
qualifiers e.g. /ALL, /CONTINUOUS the following access violation ocurrs.

%SYSTEM-F-ACCVIO, access violation, reason mask=04, virtual address=0002A154,
PC=00029CE4, PSL=03C00000

  Improperly handled condition, image exit forced.

I have re-produced this problem at the CSC. I have also recently upgraded an
internal system to v1.6-129 (PCMSVR::$1$DKB500:[ECO.CFS_129]VAX62.BCK) and
completing the CONSOLE STATUS command with the /ALL /CONTINUOUS
/SYSTEM=(System_Name) also causes an access violation. Just issuing the
CONSOLE STATUS command with no qualifiers is successful.

I appricate this is not the official probelm escalation route but I would be
grateful with any help you could offer prior to raising an IPMT.

    David,
       Were both systems at OpenVMS 6.2? I am running 6.1 and I cannot
    reproduce this problem. Regardless, i'll reconcile your crash PC with the
    listings and see what turns up.

    I have traced your problem to the section of code that parses up the
    various command options which makes sense as it doesn't break when you
    don't use any qualifiers. I would like to have a process dump from you
    so here's what I need you to do on the PCM engine from a fully
    priv'd account:

    $ install remove console$image:console$status
    $ set proc/dump
    $ cons status/continuous

    The result will be a CONSOLE$STATUS.DMP in the current directory. Make
    this available for copying across the Enet.

    Thanks,
       Dan
1214.3PCM Access Violation.42326::BARTLETTDWed Feb 28 1996 10:1510
Hi Dan,

Thanks for the prompt reply. Both of the systems are runing OpenVMS v6.2. I
have also asked my customer to produce the dump file but I havn't received
anything yet. As soon as I receive the file I will put another update on this
note with its location.

Dave B.

1214.6Access Violation - update needed.42326::BARTLETTDTue Mar 05 1996 10:0214
Hi Dan,

My customer has just called me chasing a solution. Have you any idea when you
will have any information for me about a fix for this problem? Do you want me to
IPMT this issues?

    Sorry David,
       I did find your problem just today. I've got to load the ECO 2 build
    from Monday and test it. If it works then we all we have to do is be
    patient for a couple days while SQM reviews the kit for compliance with
    DEC STD 204.

    The latest build still has the problem. The workaround is to pull the
    CONSOLE$STATUS image from the VAX 6.1 saveset CONSOLEECO2016.B.
    I tested this workaround on my 6.2 system and the ACCVIO does not
    occur plus it works as it should with no visible side effects.

1214.9PCM Access Violation.....42326::BARTLETTDMon Mar 11 1996 04:4418
Hi Dan,

Thanks for the information. I have installed the 6.1 image on to a system we
have at the CSC and it seems to work correctly. I am going to send this to the
customer today. I will update you when I hear from the customer.

Do you know if a perminent fix for this problem will be included in ECO 2?
Also, have you an update on when that is due to be released?

Thanks for your help.

    Indeed it will! As a matter of fact, this problem is what held it up
    and I'm glad it did. I personally could not endorse the release of an
    ECO kit with a "broken" command!

    Literally, any day now!

    hi,

That's right, I have just installed CONSOLEECO2016 on OpenVMS/VAX 6.2
and console status works very well ( with any qualifier).

Thanks a lot.
