Ciao, the customer has 6 VAXes Open VMS 6.1 centralized via PCM 1.6. Some days ago one of the VAXes crashed and the system has rebooted automatically. The collegue from the customer service looked for the log of the crash and the initial power up tests of the system to get some information about the state of the VAX. We were not able to find them! In the traditional environment where the systems are not connected to the PCM, all the crash logs and the power up tests are displayed to the console and eventually printed in hard copy. In the last case it is very easy to review all the crash and reboot informational messages still after the automatic reboot. 1. But what happens when the console is connect to the PCM? 2. Where the logs of the crash and the power up tests of the system are stored? 3. And how it is possible to review all these information?. If the PCM is the "substitute" of the local console in a distributed environamnet, the customer supposes there should be a file or anything else where information so important are stored. Otherwise the cusotemr says that the PCM fails one of its main goals. Can you help me to answer to the customer and to demonstrate that PCM is fully working? Thanks. Anna

Did you try doing a CONSOLE EXTRACT command? This sounds like the customer is not real familiar with the PCM product. Everything that is sent to the console is logged to that systems console logfile and may be reviewed via CONSOLE EXTRACT. You can also view this info in the MONITOR interface using the FIND and GOTO commands as well as use the Previous/Next screen keys. I suggest that you customer read the PCM V1.6 Users Guide.
