1200.0. "Why are "Multi-Line" processes at priority 10 ?" by 42708::WATSONR (Lambs... so cute... but so tasty !) Tue Feb 13 1996 05:42
Hi,
other than a possible delay in user notification, is there a reason why
the "Multi-Line 00n" process(es) cannot run at a lower priority ?
The reason I ask is that I have a PCM system monitoring a cluster that
has, for whatever reason, almost contant login failures. Needless to say, I
get a *lot* of event notifications and, with maybe 6-7 multi-line event
notification processes, they tend to run rather a lot - at priority 10.
Now, I *know* I can configure a whole number of things to work around this,
no least of which is to turn off the audit alarm for login failures, but my
question really only relates to the priority of the process.
Thanks
Ross

1200.1 | | CSC32::BUTTERWORTH | Gun Control is a steady hand. | Wed Feb 14 1996 18:13 | 9 |
| The reason that was done is so that the process can get the compute
time to perform the hand-shake between itself and the ENS Daemon.
You'll notice it has a base-priority of 8 but as you have found
tyrpically sits there at 10. Some fairly extensive testing would need
to be done to see how it reacts at a lower priority. My gut feel is
that a base priority of 8 is overkill.
