1177.0. "Connecting systems to more than one station.." by 42046::HANCOCKM (Use what you (used to) sell) Wed Jan 31 1996 08:56

	Hi,
does anyone know of,or have experience with the managing
of VAXes (6000) and HSC/HSJ's from two places at once.ie,you take
the serial output from the console of your target system(s) and
feed it to several different places. In this case,it is a large
banking cust who want to be able to control their systems from:-

	1.	VCS/PCM stations
	2.	A MAXm (3com) LAN Network (which does an identical job to
		VCS/PCM anyway)
	3.	A third (monitor-only) connection to the MAXm

Currently they take the OPA0 output and feed it to a black-box
line splitter, and feed in to the decserver port, and into the
MAXm servers. This is not ideal,as the box is passive, and offers
	no flow-control/contention at all,not to mention whether a 6000
console port is capable of sustaining 3 X RS232 "loads"

	OPA0: +-------+
	  | | | +- DECserver
	  +---------------------------------| master| | PCM/VCS
                                            | | |
                                            | slave1|------+
                                            | |
					    | slave2|---------+ MAXm server
					    | | Management
					    | slave2|-------+ Port
					    | | |
				            +-------+ |
							    +-+ MAXm server
								Monitor
								Port

I guess the situation could arise equally if you wanted to manage
a system from two different VCS/PCM stations...
If you have this kind of requirement or implementation on one of
	your sites,please let me know...
