1174.0. "DUNIX PCM 1.6-ECO1, consoled child process dies" by CSC32::B_GRUBBS () Tue Jan 30 1996 13:04

    I have a customer that occasionally sees the consoled child process
    die on his system.

    We looked all over his system and don't see any core files.

    In daemon.log we see a message to this effect:

                    console controller daemon:child controller (index=1)
                    abnormally exited, status 139

    Unfortunately he had already restarted consoled so the files in
    /var/opt/console/tmp look like they got cleared. Asked him to save
    those next time.

    The customer already has ECO 1 installed for V1.6

    What else can we do to narrow this problem down and find out why
    consoled CHILD 1 dies?

1174.3It happens to my customer also !12368::"[email protected]"Alberto YanguasMon Feb 05 1996 04:4919
Customer environment is:

	2100 with two processors.
	Digital UNIX V3.2C
	PCM V1.6 + ECO1

They are having exactly the same problem.
From time to time one child process after the other are dying in
the lapse of one or two days after the PCM restart.

Is it a known bug ?

In that case when could we expect a patch ?

    The problem occurred on my customer's PCM system over the weekend.

    They saved everything from /var/opt/console/tmp before restarting and
    we've got log files and a core file.

    Will be escalating through IPMT today.

It seems that you have a similar problem as one of my customer.

I opened a IPMT and after roundabout 6 month the problem was solved with a
patch...

I wish you good luck!

    thanks for the info Achim!

    I haven't escalated yet, waiting on the customer to send me the
    files on tape.

    So can someone confirm that IPMT MGO101591 fixes are going to be
    included in the upcoming ECO 2, and if this ECO will be released for
    DUNIX PCM?

1174.7has it been fixed?COMICS::HAWLEYI668 - the neighbour of the beast!Thu May 23 1996 12:2413
Hi,

We have a customer with the same problem here, but he swears blind that he is
running ECO 2. Is this patch contained in ECO 2 (i.e we have a different
problem) or was it contained in a separate patch?

Thanks in advance,

Ian Hawley,
PCM Support UK.
1174.8problem still exists on ECO2DARGLE::COUGHLANMon Jun 10 1996 03:369
I also have a customer with the same problem and he is on ECO2. I
reduced the amount of systems per controller to 12 and this has
reduced the amount of times the child process dies.

Can someone please update with what the latest fix for this problem
is ?

Hi,

	My name is Paul Belcher, I am a member of the Unix Support
	group in the UK CSC.

	I have the official support call for the problem that Dave
	mentions in the previous reply (.8).
	Nice Log #87400.00-45U-1DBO (Bank of Ireland).

	Can anyone confirm if this problem is still outstanding and
	receiving attention or do I need to escalate this further?

regards

Paul
