1160.0. "VCS edit hangs on VT1300" by 42326::SYMONDSK () Sun Jan 21 1996 11:40
Dear All,
I have a customer who is running VCS V1.4 to a VT1300 and has also
applied CSCPAT_1055 and CSCPAT_1090 and when he envokes the C3 window the
VAX icons are displayed and once this display is created the terminal
freezes before displaying the labels or lines drawn in VCS. Other icons
can be used normally (DECterm etc.) until the screen freezes when nothing
works.
The only way to 'unfreeze' the display is to CTRL+Y the current
$vcs edit session.
The VT1300 is running EWS and the following are the Motif idents etc:
DECwindows ident is DW V1.2-940307
DECwindows server ident is DW V1.1-920620
DECwindows transport ident is DW V1.2-940307
DECwindows xlib ident is DW V1.2-940307
DECwindows motif toolkit ident is DW V1.2-940307
DECwindows apps ident is DW V1.2-940307
DECwindows apps ident is DW V1.2-940307
The EWS server is a 6620, but when my customer display's the C3 window
to another X-Terminal performing a $ vcs edit/verify /sav on it all is
o.k.
One interesting thing is when my customer shut's down the session
manager on the VT1300 he gets the following in his
sys$login:decw$sm.log file:
Executing SYS$SYSROOT:[SYSMGR]DECW$SYLOGIN.COM;
Executing run sys$system:decw$session
System Menu Bar: Pseudo Mouse not available
XIO: fatal IO error 65535 on X server "WSA1:"
after 377 requests (369 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
Fatal error detected, image exitting -- final message:
Exiting DECW$STARTSM.COM
Can someone please explain the behaviour at all or is it EWS causing
the problem due to possible memory leaks ?
Regards,
Kevin Symonds.

| Your symptoms sound to me like resource exhaustion on the VT1300.
I'm not going to be able to help you out much with it becuase I do not
know what can be tuned on them or if anything can be.
Regs,
Dan
