Hello All, I received this question here at the StorageWorks Response Center from a distributor trying to replace MTI products with DEC products. One of the questions she has doesn't relate to storage but I thought I would try to find the answer anyway. Here is her E-mail to me: "The customer had a past problem with the VAXcluster Console (now POLYCENTER Console Manager) that if an error occured on a RAID set the error would not show up on the VCS because somebody at DIGITAL thought that it would be best not to spool it to the console unless the operator was there and would physically hit a carriage return... then the error would report. They had some code written to bypass this "feature" using the console "watchdog" which pages them on the error. Without their patch they were never paged. Has this "feature" been fixed or addressed?" Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!! Regards, Brian Montaquila

Brian, If I understand the message it sounds like the error did not get reported to the console of the system "managing" the RAID set until the operator logged on to the console of that system and hit a return. If this is correct then this is not a fault of VCS or PCM. These products are passive interfaces to the consoles of the systems they manage and the same symptom would occur if a VTxxx terminal was plugged into that console. Regards, Dan |
