Hi, OpenVMS V6.1 PCM V1.6 + ECO01 OSCint V2.1 The symptoms ... are quite the same as topic 1033. after restarting PCM, no actions got delivered ... Customer used to do console reconfigure to get them work (???). But this time, reconfigure process was HUNG. After investigating we found that CONSOLE NOTIFY was LEF. Here are some informations we had using SDA. Thanks, Maria.

Maria, There is a pretty easy way to track down the system service a process has called. Here it is: $LIB/EXT=SYS$P1_VECTORS/OUT=P1.STB SYS$LIBRARY:STARLET.OLB $ ANA/SYSTEM SDA> READ P1 Now look at the process thats hung and do a SHOW CALL. Note the return PC listed in the call fram and do SDA> EX/I return_pc-20;20 and you see the system service name in the CAL instruction. Substantial work has been done to eliminate the ENS hangs and it appears we have gotten them all. Try the CSC_116 kit please. Regs, Dan It's easier if you do a SHOW CALL and look at the first call frame on the stack.

Thanks a lot. Maria is out for the moment. We will install the CSC_116 fix as soon as possible , because the problem is very "hot" on the client site. Marielle Degage CSC France
1130.3 | does pcmsvr::[eco.cfs_125]vax61.bck superseede CSC_116.bck ? | 48243::MENICACCI | Tue Jan 02 1996 09:17 | 18
Hi, I'm back ... The customer having the problem in .0 needs also the PCMSVR::$1$dkb500:[eco.cfs_125]vax61.bck for another particular problem (IPMT CFS_36081) so the question is : does this one superseede the CSC_116 ? What's more dir CSC32::DUMPS:[BUTTERWORTH.PCM]CSC_116.BCK %DIRECT-W-NOFILES, no files found Thanks a lot, Maria.

Before you copy a saveset from my directory on CSC32 always take a directory listing first. New builds are done whenever a code change is made so the absolute latest is always present there. REgards, Dan
1130.5 | CSC32 or PCMSVR ? Where is the right one, and what are problem resolved ? | 48579::MALRAS | Knowledge is power, en France aussi | Wed Jan 03 1996 03:54 | 21 |
Re .4 So, I guess that CSC_124.BCK is the latest one. Why are they 2 differents saveset names on CSC32 and PCMSVR ? Where is the official reference ? What are exactly problem resolved ? I've some trouble to know where to get the right patch. Could you help us in providing some information about problem resolved in each new saveset (may be just an history log). New question (in same area) Are CONSOLE.H and CONSOLE$LIB.OLB been modified/updated since last official ECO1 for version 1.6. If true, could you add them in savesets to allow us to rebuild or relink our own action routines (useful for OSCint). Thanks for your help. Jean-Francois
1130.6 | is there a pointer to console.h and console$lib.olb | 48243::MENICACCI | Mon Jan 08 1996 11:35 | 12
Hi, could it be possible to have a pointer to these files, just to see if they have been modified since ECO1 of PCM V1.6. Since CSC_125 has been applied at customer site, some OSCint actions don't work anymore and we need to know if it is worthwhile to relink (as Jean-Francois said in previous reply) .... Thanks for any answer. Maria.

Yes, There has been some changes to the API modules but it should not cause an action routine not to run. Do the following: DEFINE/SYSTEM CONSOLE$DEBUG ENS and restart PCM. Then force some events to occur that should make your OSCINT actions runs. You will have a rathe verbose debug log in CONSOLE$TMP:CONSOLE$ENS_DAEMON.LOG. This will tell us if ENS is attmepting to run your actions. Regards, Dan

Dan, RE .1 The "lib/ext" failed , i haven't found the sys$P1_vector in starlet.olb (using Libr/lis also) Any idea ? Thanks Pierre

Then you have a *totally non-standard* VMS system. I have never been on a system that did not have SYS$P1_VECTOR in STARLET.OLB. Regs, Dan

Re .8 and .9 Maybe the system in .8 is an Alpha running OpenVMS. My DEC 3000-300X running OpenvMS V7.0 does not have SYS$P1_VECTOR in SYS$SHARE:STARLET.OLB either. Besides, achieving what .1 does on VAX quite nicely, appears to be more tricky on Alpha. _veli

Veli, Yes , this is an alpha machine. Dan , as i still frequently have this LEF problem with Console Notify Is there anything i should look at in SDA to retrieve more info (assuming i don't have the P1.stb) ? Thanks Pierre

Yep, I forgot that Alphas don't use SYS$P1_VECTOR ala VAX's. WHat you could do in SDA is SDA> SHO SUMMARY ! Find the index of the Console Notify process SDA> SHOW PROC/INDEX=index from the above SDA> SHOW CALL SDA> SHOW CALL/NEXT !! repeat this step until you get an error post the results of the above as well as the output from $ SHO LOGICAL/TABLE=CONSOLE$LOGICAL_NAMES Regards, Dan |
