1125.0. "Controller memory leak - results in hang ?" by 42441::ROOME () Thu Dec 14 1995 11:36
Dear All, (especially the development/remedial team.)
I've currently applied the latest patch (NSI_111) to PCM 1.6 VAX 6.1 on a
customer site to fix an ARCHIVE issue. (This did have the desired effect).
The customer is using LAT only for connections to consoles.
However, the customer is experiencing problems with the controller process
hanging, there appears to be very little in the controller or deamon log files.
However what the customer has noticed is that the controller process appears
to have a memory leak, the PAGFLQUOTA is being depleted by 1600 pages a day,
which he never observed on his 1.5 system. Allthough the process
never gets to zero pagfilequota, it appears that the controller hangs when the
quota is relatively low, ie starts at 28000 blocks and over a period of time
depletes to 4000, the controller then hangs.
We have not been able to determine if it appears to be dependent on the
ammount of data that is being handled by the controller, but rather it appears
to be a gradual deline of 1600 pages a day.
Has anyone seen this controller process memory leak before, or know of a work
round or fix, does anyone in the development team know if this is likely to
cause a hang. The only way the customer is able get PCM started again is to
stop and restart PCM.
Regards

| Also check the BYTLM quota in the JIB for the hung controller. See if
it is also leaking. I am currently working on a memory leak of the
latter nature and you may be experienceing the same thing.
