1075.0. "ENS won't start after system rename" by 25259::CROUCH (Subterranean Dharma Bum) Thu Nov 02 1995 08:54

Us again, we had to rename the PCM host this a.m. We reconfig'd the kernel,
rebooted, changed IP and DECNET, rebooted again. All products with the
exception of PCM work fine. The consoled process starts but not the ens.

Below is the environment and some error messages from various log files.
Is there a workaround? If not, should we save the configuration data bases,
delete PCM, re-install PCM and use the old databases? If this is the case
what are the proper steps to follow?

Thanks,

Jim C.
Karl G.

    Environment is as follows:

    ALPHA 3000-900

    UNIX 3.2C

Not being too versed with this I'm not sure if this is relevant or
    not.

I run console edit, get into show/modify system window. The failover
info is grayed out so that I cannot make a change. The primary host
is list as the old name. I was going to change each system to the new
PCM host name. Any reason why this cannot be done.

Yes, as that code has not been activated as it's not completed. The
engineering group added the fields in the database to support an
active failover config but the rest of the code work has not been
completed. It has nothing to do with your problem.

Ok, on the system rename it appears it cannot be done.
If this is the case perhaps this should be documented
    somewhere.

In any event, we had to remove the product and reinstall
    it.

This is unnecesary. You use the import/export function to chage these
but again this part of the code is not active. I really fee you had
    some other problem.

It was necessary. The product wasn't functioning and we had to get
remote console access working again. We had no problems with the
other layered products. I can't explain what went wrong but we were
    out of business.
