| As far as being a managed system, there is no question as the system
meets the requirements of having an ASCII console port with RS232 or
DEC423 port that supports XON/XOFF flow control and data buffering.
As far as being the host there really shouldn't be any problem as PCM
doesn't have any hardware platform specific code. The only
hardware requirements are having a minimum of 32 megs of memory and that
it have a color graphics display (if it's a workstation).
The real issue is making sure your running a supported version of
OpenVMS. Operating system changes have bitten us a few times. There was
at least one change in OpenVMS 6.2 in the C RTL that cuased some
problems. Nothing that wasn't easily fixable but it caused some pain.

| Not to put too fine an edge on it, but is something holding up formal support of
Alphastations? All the Alpha systems listed as supported hosts in the SPD are
essentially museum pieces. Can we expect real, actual support for AlphaStations
soon? I appreciate that it "should" work, but these PCM systems are usually in
environments that want to see "supported platforms".
Thanks.

| Product management is going to have to answer but I must say again
there isn't anything to worry about. The operating system version is
far more critical than the hardware it runs on. I would send mail
directly to Rae Kung-Collier at MUZICK::KUNG.
