1006.0. "Need formal doc. for IBM, HP, Tandem, PRIME, SUN" by 36418::KNAUER () Mon Sep 25 1995 17:32

My customer, who has a large PCM installation with many VAX systems
hooked up, asked about IBM, HP, PRIME, Tandem, and Sun systems. I know
the generic answer is that they can be hooked up and monitored by PCM.
I have also searched and found a fair amount of informal, anecdotal
information in this conference regarding 3rd party systems.

However, what I need is more formal, structured, complete information
on how to hook up and monitor these other systems and what will be
different, what functionality they can and can't do, etc.

Does any such formal documentation exist for any machines from any of
    the above vendors???

If so, pointers ASAP would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Thanks, Mike

There is no documentation that I know of. However, you can advise your
customer to perform a simple test to see if they can monitor the
desired systems. Just take a Digital teletype terminal and connect it
to the desired system's console port. One of those old VT100's on a
rolling stand would really be perfect.

Some systems blast out a break sequence while others sometimes change
the baud rate during startup. You can research this notes file sas well
as the old VCS notes file for any additional tips.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks for the prompt response! Anyone else out there with some
    documentation on this?

    Thanks, Mike

The systems that you want to monitor must meet the following requirements :
 1. Provide ASCII data over an RS-232C or compatible line.
 2. Has an EIA console port.
 3. Supports XON/XOFF and I/O buffering

Have a nice day,
