Is there a limit to the number of characters that can be passed from an event to an action? A customer has an action defined to page his alphanumeric pager on certain events, and is finding that, since upgrading from VCS to PCM 1.5 (+ the MUP) he is only getting the first 30 characters of the text of the event. He claims he used to get quite a bit more then that. I'd really appreciate any answers on this one today if possible. Pointers to documentation for him would be even better... Thanks Becki Tants sysmgt-c

No limit. WHat is happening is that the event is triggering on the last character in the pattern and before the end of line. There is a STARS article on this that descibes how to change the event definition so that they'll get the whole line. Regs, Dan

Hy, .1 >>>WHat is happening is that the event is triggering on the last >>>character in the pattern and before the end of line. There is a STARS >>>article on this that descibes how to change the event definition so >>>that they'll get the whole line. I Think I experiment the same problem with PCM 1.6-119 (Under VMS 6.2). I created an event to trigger an action when any line beginning with "YR" string is broadcasted on a console. My problem is that the event is always well detected, the filter triggered correctly the associated action, but very often the field "Text", sent as parameter, is truncated. I didn't find any clue in STARS, Could somebody help me, Thanks a lot, Thierry Willay / OMS Evry France

The article will indeed answer your question. The text is not being truncated, the event is being detected *before* the end of line has been detected by PCM. PCM is very quick when it comes to event detection. What you can do is change your event type from Literal to Regular expression as well as modify the text to scan for as follows: Instead of the "YR" string you should use YR*^ This tells PCM to match on the string YR followed by any combination of characters followed by a LF, CR or FF character. In other words, the event won;t trigger until the entire line of text has been read. Again, read the article. This is not a bug. Regs, Dan

Hy Dan, Thanks a lot for your help. I modified my event description with your indications. Now everything works fine. Thierry |
