I can't comment on points 1 and 2, but I noticed point 3 also on an Alpha
system running VMS (see note 859). If you have access to IPMT I would suggest
you enter this as a bug.

904.2 | Can you try PCM V1.6 | 54625::WILLEMSG | Geert Willems MCS-Belgium | Fri Aug 04 1995 08:56 | 12 |

Hi William,
An IPMT for PCM V1.5a won't help you.
You should try the lastest kit PCM V1.6 + ECO kit. If the
problem is still there, than it's time to raise an IPMT.
This may sound cruel, but ...

Geert

Do the following:
$ DEFINE/SYSTEM CONSOLE$DEBUG TRUE
Restart the software and then once the daemon has died
SET DEFAULT CONSOLE$TMP
and you will find several .LOG files. These will contain error messages
etc. If what you see does'nt makde sense post the logfiles and I'll
help you out.

This is intended behavior. All the cions for systems that your username
has access to will appear on the C3 display. If you don't want to see
the icon then don't grant the username access to the system. You use
the configuration editor to modify/add/deelte user records.

Since this is still broke on 1.6 with the ECO you will have to IPMT it.
I implore you to install 1.6 and the ECO per Geerts suggestion. it is
much more stable than 1.5A plus you will have to IPMT against 1.6
anyway since there are no more IPMT's for 1.5A etc.

| Hello,
Thanks for reply.
Refer to .4: System icon cannot be deleted..........
> This is intended behaviour. All icons.............
I still don't understand; The point is I want to delete the
system icon under the C3 interface; if I delete the user name
or didn't grant the username to the system; then I can't see
it anymore. But once I add the "deleted" username back to the
database; the icon re-appear. The reason that I want to delete
the system icon is there are TWO icons related to ONE system;
that need one icon is excess and can be deleted.
Thanks for more information.
Best regards,
William

Which is *EXACTLY* what should happen!!! The term "system icon" refers
to an icon that represents a system in the configuration file!

Again, this is *EXACTLY* what should happen.
>The reason that I want to delete the system icon is there are TWO icons

Then you added a *PERIPHERAL* icon that looks like the system in
question. You must delete the peripheral icon!! PCM will only add one
"system icon" per system in the configuration file - PERIOD! You
*cannot* delete the "system icon" from the C3. If your user record
in the PCM configuration database grants you access to the system then
it's icon will appear on your C3 display. Thats the way it works!
You *can* delete peripheral icons from the the C3. It sounds to me like
you are not trying to delete the peripheral icon and thats the one you
need to get rid of.

| Hello,
Thanks for the replies.
Q1. There is error in console016.C saveset from pcmsvr::
I've tried several time and it returned: fatal
controller error. Did somebody also encountered for
that?
Q2. Is it possible to MERGE two archive logs from two
PCM server into one and then read it?
e.g. there is a service system called NODE A which
monitored by NODE B from 01-15th, then from 16-30th
it was monitored by NODE C, can we just simply copy
the archive logs from NODE B to NODE C and then
retrieve from NODE C?
Thanks for input.

William

Yes, there is a problem with the disk where the kits are located.
Plsase see note 897 for an alternate path to the OpenVMS kits.

You can copy the archive files over. The only problem you could
encounter would be if there were archive files present on NODEC for the
time period your are copying over. I mention this only for completeness
as you shouldn't run into it becuase you already stated NODEC was not
monitoring the systems for that time period. Note there is no *merge*
operation available via a PCM utility or a CONVERT/MERGE command. It
could be done after a fashon but I don't know if it's really worth it.
