901.0. "OSF PCM 1.5 unable to connect to console & cannot log events No such File or Directory 57220" by 42326::COFFEYJ (The Uk CSC Unix Girlie.) Tue Aug 01 1995 11:48

Hi Chaps,

I have a customer who's just been escalated to me...
OSF/1 V3.2 PCM V1.5

He is evaluating console manager on OSF/1 and has a
hitch or two.....

When he brings up a C3 window and wants to try to
connect to the console of a machine the button is
greyed out.

The (/dev/tty03) is a lat line and lat is running
if he replaces the console with a terminal (ie: on the
terminal server port) he can cat down the line to it
ok so it should be host initiated ok to.

His other problem is he is getting (I don't yet know
where from) the error No such file or directory
when trying to log events.

My current list of things I'm about to check with him
is:

could I see a copy of the licence (check how many clients
& that it's a valid one that's not expired).

copy of inittab (/dev/tty03 not in there)

output of latcp -d

are any groups active on the terminal server?

is the port set to access remote

exactly what latcp line is used to set /dev/tty03
for host initiated connections?

ls -aul /dev/tty03 file /dev/tty03

I will also mention that there were some problems
around connections hanging under some circumstances
in V1.5 and that a reboot would clear that though
(he's reinstalled already!)

Any other suggestions I can check?

You've got it pretty well covered. It's gonna be the license or some
issue with port setup. Theres no real magic in LATCP to set the port
up for HIC. By default an APPLICATION port is created and all you have
to do is map it to a port on a server whihc has to be odne via a dev
    special file anyway.
