897.0. "Problems copyng ECO kits." by 54687::WIJKAMP (One day, you won't drink beer, you'll drink GROLSCH) Fri Jul 28 1995 04:06

    Hello,

    I have problems with copyng PCMSVR::CM$KIT:CONSOLEECO1016.B
    and saveset .C. Kit .A copied correct.
    Also PCMSVR::CM$DOCS:CONSOLE_V16.PS gives the same error.

    After a little while the following errors are returned:
    %COPY-E-READERR, error reading PCMSVR::DISK$PCM:[PCM]CONSOLEECO1016.C;2
    -RMS-F-RER, file read error
    -SYSTEM-F-CTRLERR, fatal controller error
    %COPY-W-NOTCMPLT, PCMSVR::DISK$PCM:[PCM]CONSOLEECO1016.C;2
    not completely copied

    Strange thing is that saveset .B always copies exact 2624
    blocks, saveset .C copies 1472 blocks, and CONSOLE_V16.PS
    copies 10880. Always the same amount for those files. I tried
    different systems at my side, with always exactly the same
    result.

    I tried:
    $ backup/list PCMSVR::DISK$PCM:[PCM]CONSOLEECO1016.B/save
    and this results in:
    %BACKUP-I-XORERRS, 1 error recovered by redundancy group in
    PCMSVR::DISK$PCM:[PCM]CONSOLEECO1016.B;2

    These things combined I assume that there is something wrong
    with the files or your system or disk.
    Maybe it is possible to check the mentioned files on their
    correctness. (Or analyze/disk)

    Thanks for your assistance in advance.

    Ren Wijkamp,
    MCS, OSS The Netherlands.

    Phil,
      I have received the same problems when trying to copy. It may be the
    datalink itself that is causing the fatal controller error.

Hello,

I still cannot copy the files. What wonders me is that
the error always occurs after the same amount of blocks
for every different file. Console*.ps after 10880 blocks
every time I tried (5 times from different systems.)
but saveset B always breaks up
after 2624 blocks. I don't think it is some quota problem
at this side, since I assume that the problem would then
occur after 'about' the same number of blocks for any file.
I received the B and C saveset via another contact on the
net, but he did not have the PS file, and could not copy it!!!

Can somebody maybe copy this file to our cluster.
UTRTSC:: (def decnet). That would be of great help.

Thanks in advance.

Are there OSF/ Digital Unix kits there too?

Any chance of a nice ftp address/location?

Have we any progress on the lack of docs or unix kits yet?

I could seriously do with getting some 1.6 docs for unix!

We have a local copy of the OSF/1 kit V1.6 if anyone else needs it:

rlogin decuk
login: spc
passwd: spcspc (if it asks for one - which I don't think it will)

Option 4 to extract a kit

SPC id for the kit is 21814 and it'll even mail or disk copy it to you
nice and neatly with a README etc...

    Folks,
       I have got a copy of at least the user guide in

    CSC32::DUMPS:[BUTTERWORTH.PCM]

    I renamed the V16_ECO1.DIR to PCM.DIR to make it more generic. The
    OpenVMS kits and ECO are there as well. Thanks to Rae Collier for
    getting the User Guide to me. Note the User Guide is generic to *all*
    hardware/OS platforms.

    I accessed PCMSVR and have determined that the SCSI controller on the
    system is faulty. Rae is letting the system manager know.

    Dan,

       Does it make sense to have the kits in 2 locations? PCMSRV has the
    kits and doc set as outlined in the notes banner.

    Cheers,

Unless you want to support a product without kits every time a
disk goes dodgy or someone reboots a machine or ftp access or decnet
have a problem then it makes an immense amount of sense to me!

Thanks for the help Dan, I'll drop copies into tyguer as well
for UK access (not that I don't trust our networks or anything :-)
might as well save cross pond traffic where we can eh...

Incidentally is csc32 accessible by both decnet and ftp?

It's just I've tried dls-ing a few times this morning and
although it could be our blasted network filtering here in
Viables, I keep getting

dls: directory list failed, Connect failed, no response from object

    Dave,
      You may have missed the notes string about the problems copying from
    PCMSVR. That system is having SCSI controller problems and several
    of a the savesets are/were inaccessible. I know that parts were ordered
    so as soon as it's straightened out we can use PCMSVR again.

    Dan,

       The system manager has moved the kit sources onto another disk.
    However, I think the doc set is on the flakey disk. He did state that
    he was going to move them as well.

    Thanks for the update Dave! I did not know this had been done.
