883.0. "Problems/Questions with MAIL notification - PCM V1.5-006 & V1.6-100" by CSC32::D_DONOVAN (SummaNulla(The High Point of Nothing)) Fri Jul 21 1995 18:16

I have not been able to find any information on how PCM users are
selected for MAIL notification of significant events and other PCM internal
events (ie. "startup", "shutdown", "reconfigure", etc.). I am investigating
a customer problem with V1.5-006 that concerns MAIL notification. Seems that
when PCM is started under the SYSTEM UIC all of his PCM users (six of them)
receive all of the MAIL notification on all events and also all of the PCM
internal events. However, when he starts PCM under his user UIC "MAIL
notification behaves normally"[sic].

I encountered a similar problem yesterday using V1.6-100. I was in
the process of duplicating a customer problem with a MAIL dispatch. After I
was done - I deleted the EVENT, ACTION_ROUTINE and the FILTER and then
reconfigured. When I logged into my workstation this moring I found 497 MAIL
messages from PCM for scanned events and PCM internal events. I then stopped
and restarted PCM and haven't received any MAIL since.

Can someone shed some light on this and also comment on where in the
documentation it discusses "who gets MAILed" and "why the get MAIL". I looked
but couldn't find anything.

Thanks,

Dennis

    Dennis,
The Mail action uses the "userdata" field as the mail recipient(s).
The "userdata" is specified in the filter record(s). WHo starts PCM
has *no effect* on what has been specified in the filter record or
any other record for that matter. What does the filter record
look like specifically what has been specified in the userdata.

Hi Dan,

As per our "quick" conversation the other day - In my test with FXRS89,
after I was done with testing I had deleted the FILTER and ACTION ROUTINE
from the database and then did a RECONFIGURE. When I got back to work the
following morning I had 497 MAIL messages.

Regardless - Who/How/Why are users selected to receive MAIL messages
concerning PCM internal events such as shutdown/startup/reconfigure?

Thanks,

Dennis
