868.0. "Installation asks not for a directory!!" by MUNICH::REIN (It's not Burgundy, it's Bordeaux!!) Thu Jul 13 1995 15:27

    Hallo,

    A customer installed PCM 1.6 on VMS 6.2

    One problem which he found is, that during installation there is only a
    question for a disk device, where PCM should be installed.

    there is no question for a directory structure, so when you have a
    directory structure ofther than default, you will run into problems,
    because the logfiles will not be converted:

    * Please specify the disk for Console Manager files [SYS$SYSDEVICE]:
    <CR>

    It costs a lot of time to rename the directories etc, to get the old
    structure back!!

    kind regards

Volker,

  This is because we only support our directory tree in the
  root directory of a disk.

  What if the customer were to define a logical pointing to
  the location they want the [CONSOLE] directory in and using
  this at install time? (Obviously they may have to define this
  logical with the correct attributes for it to work i.e
  /trans=(conc,term) etc).

Cheers,
Phil

    Hallo,

    I have no difficulty with the installation on my system,
    but I see on most other products a question or a notification about
    the directory structure.

    The only thing I ask for is a message for our customers who
    are not going the default way, may be because of low disk_space etc.
    putting for instance the log files to another disk!
    Just a simple sentence!

    kind regards
