I am new at this, just install PCM v1.5 on a VAXstation 3100 with VMS v6.1. I set up to watch port 2 on a terminal server with a terminal attached. I set up filters for three events: **ERROR** as critical, **TEST** as minor, and *Warning* as a warning. I set up the action to send mail to SYSTEM. When I type these events on the terminal I get the mail messages sent and the ICON on the console window turns to the correct color and the list in the event window is of the same color. But I can not find any logfiles. I do notice that this morning there are log files and event files created yesterday which were not there yesterday but nothing for today. When I do a WATCH command with output to TT: nothing is displayed, even though I get the mail messages. Also the ENS status counts these events but it also counts failed action for each of these events even though the mail messages are sent. I noticed in one of the earlier notes it was mentioned that logging must be enabled, how do I determine if logging is enabled or not and how do I change its state? I use CONSOLE C3 and have gone through all of the menus and can not find anything that determines the state of logging, although when I go into the editor and show the system it has the Log Console Data checked with the location specified as CONSOLE$LOGFILES. As I mentioned above, yesterday there was nothing for this system in there but this morning there is, but nothing for this morning. I also noticed mentioning of a MUP for v1.5, what is a MUP and is it on the March 1995 distribution? Thanks for any help Norm

Norm, You check logging by looking at the definition for your managed system in the PCM database... $ CONSOLE EDIT/INTER=CHAR POLYCENTER Console Manager Character Cell Editor Version V1.6-105 Copyright (c) 1995 Digital Equipment Corporation. All Rights Reserved Database contains NO verification errors PCM Edit> show system LAT_01 Full or Brief listing? [f=full, b=brief] (b): f Output file (SYS$OUTPUT): System Name = LAT_01 Information = Information field for system Connection = LAT (terminal server) Terminal Server = CM31 Server Port = PORT_2 Scan Profile = Test Icon filename = VAX_8530.xbm Console line = Enabled Logging is enabled, directory = cmlogs2 PCM Edit> Note the last line of output before the prompt returns. It would appear from your description that you do indeed have logging enabled. We had problems with Extract in V1.5 which the MUP fixed, I dont know if the MUP is on the March CONDIST, but is certainly on the June CONDIST (Well, its on my copy anyway). If I were you, I would skip the MUP and install the V1.6 kit in OPG::CM$KIT: this kit fixes A LOT of problems with the V1.5 (including MUP) release. As for not seeing the data in Watch etc or even getting LOG files created, this is a little puzzling, although again, we did fix some buffer flushing problems which may have produced what you are seeing, again, I would recommend that you upgrade.
