763.0. "PCM T1.6-007 on OpenVMS-first impression" by HLSM04::GERRIT (Gerrit Woertman, UTO, 838-2535) Thu May 25 1995 10:33

    Hi,

I have just installed on OpenVMS V6.1 (AXP) T1.6-007; upgrade
    from T1.6-003 (and daemon T1.6-005).

    I have observed 3 points:

    - during installation there is a complaint about the sysgenparameter
DEFMBXBUFQUO, what is not 1056; well, in my situation it has
      the value 30000, left-over of PCM V1.5-006 with RWMBX-problems.
So the check must change, and maybe it is possible to display
the present value and the desired value.
    - I am home now, so I cannot check the C3-picture;
in note 239.0 I have made a remark about the fact that the image
      sys$library:cxxl$011_shr.exe was not installed.
It is possible that the image is not needed in this version,
      otherwise it must be installed!
    - when starting PCM nothing happened; in the logfiles in console$tmp
2 verification errors in the database were mentioned.
It is strange, but when I did: $ cons edit/inter=char
    					verify
there were no errors, and after that the startup succeeded.

    regards,

    Gerrit

Gerrit,

We do the check on the mailbox buffer quota precicely because of
people such as yourself that have raised the value, I accept your
comment about displaying its present and desired value, I will update
  the kitinstal to do this.

The C3 should no longer be installed with any privileges so you should
no longer get the message about cxxl$011_shr.exe. The consequence of
this is that we had to change the protection on the
CONSOLE$LOGICAL_NAMES table so this table needs deleting and
recreating, the easiest way of doing this is to reboot your system after
  the upgrade.

The problem with verify is a known one which will be resolving in a
  later kit.

Cheers,
Phil

    Hi,

regarding my last observation about cons edit/inter=char
    and the verification-errors.
A second invocation of the console-editor did give 2 errors:
2 systems with the same terminalserverports.

Maybe I have had to logout and login, or load new DCLtables?

    regards,

763.3access violation in console-editorHLSM04::GERRITGerrit Woertman, UTO, 838-2535Thu May 25 1995 22:4682
Phil,

do you already know this phenomenon with the console-editor?
This morning I encountered the same access violation, but then
the action definition was something like ^P.
After that access violation I started the console editor
again, and was more interested in the verification-errors,
    as described in .0.
But now the access violation is back again, but also after a try
to remove this system, that was physically powered off yesterday.
    A screen capture follows.

    regards,

    Gerrit

    Hi,

I'm sorry to say, but the LEF in controller_07 is there again...

Well, let's go for an extra round of testing, we are now almost
    LEF-free.

Gerrit,

I have just fixed the "delete system" problem, we will be putting another
kit together today with some synchronization problems fixed, so you
will see this fix in the new kit.

I am still trying to work out why the install didnt verify your database
  correctly, this one is baffling!!

As for the LEF problem, I will leave that to Simon as he is working
with you on that one.

Cheers,
Phil
