740.0. "PCM T1.6-003; LEF is back again..." by HLSM04::GERRIT (Gerrit Woertman, UTO, 838-2535) Wed May 17 1995 02:21
Hi,
the second impression of PCM T1.6-003 is not completely good.
After my downgrade from PCM T1.6 to PCM V1.5 last Friday, I had copied
the PCM T1.6-003 kit, installed it, and found the items mentioned in note 739.0.
At 19:30h I wanted to use ACB to have a look from home, and no reaction
from ACB, because we had a powerdip, and no UPS...
Now at 00:49 the next day I have some more experience with PCM T1.6-003
The C3-picture has changed: new icons
With more than 4 consoles connected from C3 I got: process quota exceeded.
Connecting from the $-prompt worked, until...
it's a pity, but it was there again: LEF
I have made two crashdumps: hlcc00::sys$system:16may95.dmp and
hlcc00::sys$system:16may95b.dmp
and in the directory IS:[CLUSTER_MANAGER.PCM_support] quite a lot of files
with the prefix 16*; amongst these files two backups of the logfiles in
console$tmp with the logical "CONSOLE$DEBUG" = "DAEMON".
In both situations Controller Process 03 became LEF

After the crash controller 3 and 4 became LEF
Console restart seems to go okay, anyway the Notify process disappears,
and that's an improvement.
A closer look however showed:
New controller processes 1-2 and 5-8, and the old processes 3 and 4!!!
A stop/id of the controller processes gave lta-devices trying to login.
Proper restart of PCM
Again hang of controller 3, and again a crash dump
Now at 02:00h in the morning, with a new controller 3 in LEF,
and waiting for an engineer with a new ESE56-disk, I am again going to
downgrade to PCM V1.5-006 on my main PCM-station, to get some production
the next days.
On the backup PCM-station I can install the FT-kit again, but that will not
be before next monday.
The crashdumps will be analyzed by UTO-SSO, it probably will be Ton Dorland.
regards,
Gerrit

| Gerrit,
Could you please post an export of your database so that we can try
and reproduce it.
If you use home grown command procedures in pseudo-terminals can
we also have a copy of those too please
Cheers,

| Gerrit,
about the number of connect windows from a C3. We have had
a similar problem with another customer. It appears to be the
Pagefile Quota which causes the problem. If the C3 is interactive
increase the UAF pagefile quota.
Cheers Simon...

Phil,
right now you get a mail from HLCC00::PCM_MANAGER with an export
of the PCM T1.6-003 database.
The only Pseudo-terminal I use for system HLCC00 was still disabled,
fact of life since PCM T1.6-002; you can see this in the mail.
Btw the code for this pseudo-terminal came from this notesfile:
$ set noon
$ wait 00:00:10
$ i = f$trnlnm("SYS$INPUT")
$ c = f$trnlnm("SYS$COMMAND")
$ o = f$trnlnm("SYS$OUTPUT")
$ set term 'o'/broad
$ write sys$output "SYS$INPUT =''i' SYS$COMMAND = ''c' SYS$OUTPUT = ''o'"
$ write sys$output "Issuing $ REPLY/ENA"
$ reply/ena
$ write sys$output "Issuing $ REPLY/STAT"
$ reply/stat
$ wait 00:01:00
$ loop:
$ write sys$output "This is reply only terminal"
$ wait 01:00:00
$ goto loop
