707.0. "DIALOG problem still in T1.6" by UTRTSC::DORLAND (There's always one more bug!) Tue May 02 1995 14:08

    	Hello,

a few days ago I got a customer call on CONSOLE DIALOG.
On 1.5 this only works when the DIALOG file was
    	on CONSOLE$USER_DEFAULTS.

It seems that T1.6 still has the same problem/restriction.
Any chance of modifying this in the final 1.6 version?

    	Thanks, Ton

Ton,

The definition of CONSOLE$USER_DEFAULTS overrides any other checks,
what behaviour does your customer expect?

Cheers,
Phil

He just wants to do CONSOLE DIALOG /FILE=<DISK:[DIR]FILE>
The problem is that you may want to have one central C3 file
this can be accomplished by setting up the CONSOLE$C3.DAT in
    your own defined CONSOLE$USER_DEFAULTS directory.
Maybe DIALOG should not look in CONSOLE$USER_DEFAULTS.

Well , I have just deassigned the CONSOLE$USER_DEFAULTS logical
and CONSOLE DIALOG now works. If I remeber correctly this
did not work under 1.5 so there is indeed an improvement.

    Regards, Ton

Ton,

OK, what I have just done is the following...

The file you specify will be searched for the following directories
  in the order here...

     CONSOLE$USER_DEFAULTS: CONSOLE_USER_DEFAULTS on OSF/1
     SYS$LOGIN: $HOME on OSF/1
     Your current working directory

Unless you specify a directory path in your file spec, in which case,
it WILL ONLY look in the named directory.

This will apply to ALL the user interfaces, not just dialog, so these
directories will be search for monitor initialization files, script
  files, dialog files etc.

  Is this what you wanted?

Cheers,
Phil

That looks to me like a very good solution.

    Thanks, Ton
