705.0. "Question on ENS and screen saver behavior" by CSC32::D_DONOVAN (SummaNulla(The High Point of Nothing)) Mon May 01 1995 17:35

This issue is somewhat similar to the question posed in #658 but in
this instance a customer knows how to "turn the screen save off" but needs to
find out how to disable from PCM after an event is signaled and then have PCM
turn the screen saver back on after the event has been cleared ala VCS
behavior. In the customer's words:

Under VCS, when an event occurred, and the one-shot style window
appeared, it would cancel the screen saver, so my operators could
see the event. This no longer happens with PCM. It renders the
console rather useless with respect to data center notification
unless I can get it to interrupt the screen saver.

	Until I find out how to do this, I have disabled the screen saver;
However, I don't really like the idea of burning out a $3000 graphics
terminal... So, what do I do?

Thanks,

Dennis

Dennis,

The one-shot window on VCS and the Single-Shot window on PCM
are identical, they are exactly the same code (except for a
couple of bug fixes) and they are invoked in an identical
  manner.

So, I must assume that the behaviour of Motif is different to
that of XUI (which is what VCS supported). Now, as for getting
the old behaviour back, maybe someone who knows more about
Motif and Window managers etc can shed some light.

Cheers,
Phil
