698.0. "Clearing Out Working Directories" by ELGIN::RASOOLM (The computer in front is an ALPHA) Fri Apr 28 1995 10:39

I have initiated a "@CONSOLE$STARTUP.COM restart", and for the last 40
mins, it has been busy doing the "Clearing Out Working Directories"
    bit.

It is not hung, as the I/O rate is going up steadily. The last time I
did this, it took about an hour ( I do not do it regularly enough?).

Is there something I should be doing on a regular basis to keep the
    "working directories" ship-shape?

    Max.

Max,

Nope, this is a known problem, if you have large numbers of action routines
started, their temporary command procedures dont get deleted when they exit.

They also dont get deleted anyway if you have debug turned on!

Cheers,
Phil

698.2Manual tidyup saves time on startupSUPER7::HUGHESASwimming against the tide @#%*Fri Apr 28 1995 11:148
Max,

Keep an eye on the CONSOLE$TMP directory and delete the log files
on a regular basis while PCM is still running. This will reduce your
startup time as PCM clears the contents of this directory upon
	startup.

Andy.

Thanks, I'll keep one eye on the CONSOLE$TMP directory.

The last time it happened though, I kept doing "show dev d" to see if
space was being cleared off any disk. No disk showed up any extra space
    after the job finished.

I do not currently have any action routines implemented.

    Max.
