I'm currently working with a customer who has migrated from VCS and is asking if the following is possible: " ...with VCS when we performed system maintenance we didn't want all of the unwanted messages coming from our connected systems so we simply "turned off" the event notification by stopping the VCS$ELOG process and then restarting it (VCS$ELOG) after our maintenance was finished... " I looked into this with PCM however I'm rather "new" to this product so I'm not sure that I explored every possibility. However, what I found was that once I stopped the Console Notify daemon restarting it was not possible until I shut PCM down and did a "cold start." When I passed a P1 parameter of "DAEMONS" to CONSOLE$STARTUP it simply told me to issue a RESTART due to the fact that other PCM components were running and "CONSOLE$IMAGE_STARTUP is an internal "CALL" which makes "crafting" something outside of CONSOLE$STARTUP not worth the effort. Is turning off event notification and restarting it without having to restart all of PCM doable/advisable/supported? Thanks, Dennis

Dennis, Stopping the ENS process is neither advisable, nor supported. There is no way to do what you need "out of the box" and it would require some major work to implement what you are asking. Cheers, Phil |
