677.0. "console shutdown doesn't work correctly" by BACHUS::WILLEMSG (Geert Willems MCS-Belgium) Fri Apr 14 1995 09:05

	Hi,

I have a customer with the following problem :
	PCM V1.5a, OpenVMS VAX V6.1 .

Most of the time Console Manager can't shutdown all
his processes. There's always some Console Ctrl xx
that stays alive after doing CONSOLE SHUTDOWN.
Is this already a reported problem ?
	How can I troubleshoot this ? (SDA>SH PROC/CH,SH PROC/LOCK ?)
What kind of information do you need ?

	Any help is welcome.

	Rgds,

	Geert

    Geert,
I've had this happen a couple times too. It appears to be related to
the same issue that was causing the RWMBX problem which is fixed in
the upcoming 1.6 release. I can't see spending time debugging this
on 1.5 when 1.6 will more than likely fix it.

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for the feedback. Indeed this customer(biggest Digital customer
site in Europe) has the RWMBX problem. He has already activated
    the SET HIDDEN.
But he still has a lot of problems. Higher management of this
company is discussing about the future of Digital for them, more partically
about PCM. First rumours are to go back to VCS ...and they know that
VCS isn't supported anymore. Reply from the customer : We want
something that works. We don't care if it isn't supported or not.

I tried to convince them to wait on V1.6 of PCM. So, my big question
when will this kit be available ? Simon or Phil can you give me an
    answer on this ?
And is the console shutdown problem fixed in V1.6 ? I noticed also
that some LTA devices are vanishing after CONSOLE SHUT.

    Help/advise is very much appreciated.

    Rgds,

Geert,

A V1.6 FT kit will be available anyday now, obviously we will only
release it when we are satisfied that it is stable and works. If we
were to give you what we have now, your customer would be even more
upset with us than they are now!!

One of the things holding up the FT kit is the shutdown problem, we
are trying very hard to get it fixed.

Yes, you will notice LTA devices vanishing after a shutdown, thats
because we delete them! This is entirely normal behaviour.

Cheers,
Phil

    Thanks for the feedback Phil.

Hm the LTA part. I was to quick --> I meant that some LTA devices
weren't disappearing of course. I'm currently logged in via x25
at customer site and a few LTA devices are inactive. See below :

Geert,

Well, if the controllers are not shutting down properly and your
customer is stop/id'ing them, then you will get all these LTA
  devices left around.

cheers,
Phil
