I am migrating my customer from VCS to PCM. VCS is currently integrated with Watchdog so part of my effort includes providing the same level of integration with PCM. I have perused both this and the SNS notesfile for info on the SNS$FEED_PCM and the SNS$FEED_VCS example feeds that are provided with SNS and have found little info that speaks to exactly how one goes about integrating the two products. With VCS, the SNS$FEED_VCS.C program contained a well documented procedure.. sadly, the SNS$FEED_PCM.C program does not. I have a note posted in the SNS notesfile that has provided a few answers, but I still have not been enlightened as to how to provide the same level of integration with PCM as was available with VCS (SNS notesfile note 539). Simply, I would like to feed watchdog events to a PCM C3 and have an icon change the appropriate color based on the severity of the event sensed. Can anyone provide specific instructions as to how to provide this integration? Please? Any assistance in putting this issue to rest would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!!!!! /jane

Jane, If you just want to get it working, you can take the SNS$FEED_VCS program and run it as a "pseduo-node" just as VCS does currently. Just go into the PCM configuration editor and add a node called WATCHDOG, for example, and set it's connection type to Pseudo-terminal. In the "Command to execute" field place the following command: RUN path-to-image-file:SNS$FEED_VCS This is how I set it up on my system and it works fine. Bear in mind that PCM considers pseudo-nodes as a connection thus it requires a license. VCS did the same thing so it probably isn't an issue at your customer site. Regards, Dan P.S. The OSCInt product mentioned in other notes will contain a much better piece of code but this product is not an official line product.

Since I can't find anything that looks like SNS$FEED_VCS on my digital_unix system, any ideas how you'd do this same thing on DU? Customer wants to display watchdog events thru console manager. Thanks

Yep, get the customer to buy OSCint for Digital UNIX. Not only does this integrate PCM and PSW, but adds a Motif interface to PSW for editing and an expert filter that does regular expressions and event correlation. AZUR::OSCINT$DOCS: AZUR::OSCINT$KIT: Shaun |
