642.0. "Break over Telnet" by EEMELI::OJUSSILA (Olli Jussila, OMS Finland) Tue Mar 07 1995 20:55

I have had problems sending break when telnet connection
is used. Break work when lat is used.

If I have MicroVAX II connected to DS300 and PCM have telnet
connection to DS300 port should I be able to break MicroVAX II.
If I connect terminal to console breaks works.

Yes you should! Your not the first person to report this. I would like
to know what version of the DS300 software you are using. In one case,
upgrading the server software has fixed the problem but this was on
a different server type but we could certianly have the same problem
    within the DS300's!!

Olli,
nice to hear from you again. The answer to your problem is that you cannot
do TELNET break on the DECserver300 terminal server. The TELNET server in the
DS300 never had any code to support the TELNET break protocol message so it just
gets dropped. The same was true of the forst DECserver 90TL software.

The good news is that if you run the DNAS software on a DS90TL DS90M DS700 DS900
then the code was added for TELNET break.

So I guess the answer is to trade in the old for the new.

Cheers Simon...

P.S. get a server with FlashRam so it does not require a load host!!!

Thanks again for your answers. With VAX4000's there is SET CONTROLP
ENABLE workaround. It is good to know DS300 can handle remote break
over telnet now we can start thinging other solutions.

    Thanks,
