628.0. "attempting ENS connect" by CSC32::PITT () Tue Feb 28 1995 00:39

Less than an hour ago, PCM started up and ran just FINE on my osf v3.0
    system.

Now when I try to start it up, I get

                          "ATTEMPTING ENS CONNECT"
              and then "connection failed"

This happens frequently and I usually end up rebooting to get it
working again. Before I rebooted, I did make sure that pcm was shut
    down....

it happens so frequently (on all the nodes I have PCM installed on)
that I find it hard to believe that there were no other notes on the
    subject.....

    thanks

Cathy,
Hmm seems interesting. yuo are seeing the error message on the C3 display
I assume. What is happening is the C3 is trying to connect to ENS to recieve
events, but ENS is not there. If not connect the C3 periodically attempts to
reconnect.

Now as to why the ENS process is crashing, that is the real problem. Any chance
of access to the system to have a look at it!!

Give me a ring or drop me mail.

Cheers Simon...

One more interesting thing -- when this happens and console mgr NEVER
comes up properly, it is impossible to kill it.
If I do a console -s it asks if I want to kill pcm. I say YES, but
ps -ade | grep console shows:

    27831 ?? S 0:00.81 /usr/opt/DCR150/bin/OSF/console_c3

Trying to kill it by pulling down on the window and selecting close
    does nothing.

I have to kill -9 on the PID for console_c3....

You can try deleting the files in the following
directory. Make sure that PCM is not running when you do this.

    /usr/var/opt/console/tmp
