620.0. "IVP failure on non-Motif system - missing CONSOLE$EDITM.EXE" by KERNEL::TITCOMBER () Mon Feb 20 1995 16:50

OpenVMS v6.1

PCM v1.5

Problem:

A customer has attempted to install PCM v1.5 (without DEcwindows
support) onto a VAX system, but the IVP fails due to a missing binary
file (CONSOLE$DATA:EDITM.EXE). No errors are reported during the actual
installation.

He has attempted two installs, one from CD and another install from
TK50. Both gave the same results.

Checking the SPD I can see no requirement for DECWindows/Motif listed.
Is Motif required for the installation of PCM V1.5?

Attached is a logfile of one of the failed installation attempts.

Any help or answers would be greatly appreciated.

Yes,
Motif does need to be installed as we use some of the run time sharable
images. However, in the customers case where there is no graphic hardware he
does not need a Motif license.

The SPD should mention this I shall get an addendum put out.

Cheers Simon....
620.2Is Motif LICENCE required?OGRI::63536::BELLMartin Bell @BBP (M&U PSC)Tue Jun 11 1996 04:3111
Hi,

is it still true that Motif must be INSTALLED, but need not be
licenced in PCM v1.6?

The SPD _still_ lists it as a S/W pre-req, even though .1 suggested
that the words may be amended for v1.5!

Cheers,

The IVP will fail but PCM should run. You will obviously not be able to
use any of the GUI's.

Dan,

thanks for the info. I am trying to convince my customer that the whole
point behind PCM is the graffical interfais, but sometimes common sense
fails!

Cheers,
