612.0. "Affect of PCM Server Crashing?" by MKOTS3::HAHN (U.S. Technical Consulting Center) Tue Feb 14 1995 18:56

A customer has two AXP/VMS servers in a DSSI cluster, serving many
Alpha workstations.

He is considering buying PCM and installing it on one of the AXP systems,
and would like to know the answer to the following question:

If the system crashes, will it lock up (or affect in any other way) the
Alpha workstations that are being monitored?

Thanks,
 Dave

Dave,

No, however, if the customer uses DECservers to connect the console
of the monitored systems, if the wrong servers are used or if they
are set up incorrectly, the the terminal server being shutdown/rebooted
may cause the monitored systems to halt.

Cheers,
Phil
