554.0. "Need VCS->PCM Migration Documentation" by LOCH::KNAUER () Thu Jan 12 1995 21:12

    Is there any documentation that specifically discusses the issues
    involved in migrating from VCS to PCM? Perhaps one or more of the
    documents in OPG::cm$docs: ??? I can't tell from the file names.

    My customer would like me to tell them the pros, cons, and work
    involved to migrate.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mike

    I haven't seen any specific documentation like what your looking for
    but I can tell you from experience that it's painless. The basic steps
    are:

    1. Install the product.

    2. Run the database conversion utility.

    3. Edit the resulting port file and update any line that says
       ****Required Information**** with the appropriate data. It'll
       make sense when you see it.

    4. Go into the PCM editor from the SYSTEM account and import the
        resulting port file from step 3.

    5. Shutdown and start PCM

    The pro's to upgrading - you'll be running fully supported software.

    The con's - none.

    And don't forget to install the recently released MUP. If your customer
    upgrades before they get their official copy from SSB you can pull it
    from OPG::CM$KIT:
