Not sure why your've having problems. Best bet is to get the
Ultrix layered products documentation CD. The entire manual will be
at your fingertips.
As for your question about checking for a passwd at login time, we do
it a little differently. The security is taken care within PCM's
database. You add a user and then define which systems the user can
access. Console connectivity is then enabled for that user.
As for the C2 security being enabled, I'm not sure. I didn't know that
you could turn it on or off. If you tell me how to turn it on, I'll
check it.

553.2 | VCS for ULTRIX; C2 <-> ENhanced Security | ROMEOS::SHOMO_RO | | Thu Jan 12 1995 20:02 | 17 |
| Re: -.1
Maybe I wasnt clear but that's what I'm trying to do read the ULTRIX
layered Products CD. There are two points: first it seems there are
some products which require PAK installed before you can read docset.
Secondly if we are going to prompt with such messages let's make them
correct. I don't think I would have a need to install VCS on my ULTRIX
workstation.
The Enhanced Security for DEC OSF/1 (also referred to as C2) is an
optional subset you install to make OSF/1 a trusted system. Therefore
the system must be configured; I believe "setsetup" is used to select
C2 security features. It definitely impacts logins, passwords, use of
permission bits, etc. In fact there is a separate manual entitled
"Enhanced Security" to cover this non-trivial enhancement.
Let me know your feelings.

| Rob,
I dont understand why you are being prompted for a VCS PAK, you shouldnt
need a PAK at all, in fact, you shouldnt need the product documentation
CD-ROM as the product installs the bookreader files for online help in the
DECwindows interfaces.
We have not performed any validation of the product with Enhanced Security,
although I cant think of any reason why it shouldnt work.
Simon, if you are reading this, can you add anything?
Cheers,
Phil

| Is there a BOOKBROWSER shell script on the CD? I know the VMS product
CD's have a BOOKBROWSER.COM which loads a pak to allow access to any
book on the CD regardless of whether you have a pak for the product
or not.

| PCM does run under enhanced security. I run the shadowed passwrod file on
ULTRIX and it works OK for me.
I have not tried a kerberised name service though.
Cheers Simon....
