542.0. "ENS no Autoconfigure after Reconfigure " by SEDOAS::CLIFFE_S () Wed Jan 04 1995 13:17

    My customer has discovered another "feature " of PCM 1.5, in that if
    you do a reconfigure of PCM, the message will come up in your ENS
    window to say that it has been reconfigured. However the ENS window is
    then DISCONNECTED from the events, and you have to manually go into the
    ENS window & select the "connect" option within the dilogue box. to get
    your events reported by ENS ( a system crash was missed yesterday)
    	Is the above deliberate, and is it possible to get the ENS to
    autoconnect after a reconfigure has taken place ?

Steve,

  The eventlist window shouldnt disconnect when a reconfigure happens, there
  is something else happening here!!

  I notice that they are using the eventlist "interactively" or via the C3,
  what happens if the eventlist is running as an action routine?

Cheers,
Phil
542.2Clear as md eh?SEDOAS::CLIFFE_SWed Jan 04 1995 16:2316

    		After spending some time with the customer it appears the
    problem reported only occurs when you shutdown & startup PCM, in that
    the ENS window that is automatically created by PCM when it is first
    started, is NOT reconnected to on sucessive startups.
    		Is there any way ( without selecting the kill window on
    PCM shutdown option) tohave the ENS window automatically reconnected.

    		They also have some MULTI-LINED windows served to varous
    workstations & PC's but the option to disconnect on shutdown is
    selected, so the window re-appears on the first new event.

Steve,

  Nope, sorry, I will put it on my wish list of enhancements for the next
  release though.

  Just to get this right, what your customer wants is the ability to have the
  eventlist attempt to reconnect periodically after it loses connection to
  ENS. You do realize that this cant be done for actions, only for the
  interactive/C3 event lists.

Cheers,
Phil

542.4I Want, I wantSEDOAS::CLIFFE_SThu Jan 05 1995 09:3813

    	What the customer wants is that when you shutdown/startup
    PCM, at the end of the startup, it checks for the existance of an ENS
    box, if that box exists, then some poke to reconnect is generated.
    	Now If the ENS box is totally independant. Then some form of
    periodic retry of the ENS box will be a compromise.
    	What would suffice is that say some icon box is fired up once
    PCM is shutdown and restarted to say something like "do you want
    to connect ENS"

Steve,

  I cant give you the prod to reconnect, however, I can implement the
  periodic connect when the connection is lost. The reason for this is that
  in the next release, the eventlist running interactively may not be running
  on the same system as the rest of PCM.

Phil
