If installing from scratch, is it necessary to install the base kit
first?

| Hello again,
How are customers going to get the MUP and when?
1. Shipping to installed PCM customer base and when?
2. Will it be on the Consolidated Distribution ... when?
Thanks for the info,
Connie

| Connie,
The usual answers...
1) Whenever SSB can ship them out. Or the CSC gets notified of
them being in TIMA via our CSERL submission.
2) Yes, next time CONDIS ships to customers, in the meantime,
the MUP may be given out via yourselves in the CSC once it
has reached you.
Cheers,
Phil

524.5 | But, but ... | CSC32::C_TOWNSEND | | Mon Dec 19 1994 23:24 | 14 |
| Phil -
I really need to have specific information because the CSC is not a MUP
distribution center. SSB does the shipment to the product customer base.
We make exceptions occasionally but ...
I want to tell my customers the following:
1. The specific Release Date from SSB
2. The month the MUP will appear on the Consolidated Distribution
(Will it make the January Condist?)
Respectfully requested,
Connie

| Connie,
according to Dec Standard 204 ( the process that engineering use for
production and distribution of patches) all fixes whether they be ECO or MUP
are loaded into TIMA and are then avqilable to the CSCs. The difference wih a
MUP is that it is also loaded into CSERL ( corporate Software library) and is
sent to manufacturing so that it is made available to ALL customers via normal
manufacturing channels i.e. traditional media and CONDIST.
So you will be able to pull the kit from TIMA as if it were any normal patch and
it will be shipped via manufacturing.
As for dates:
People on traditional media will start to see kits arrive early in the new year.
I have sent the pointers and check kits off to manufacturing. As for CONDIST,
well that depends on the platform.
The date I have for the submissions and releases are below, please note I do not
guarentee the accuracy of these dates as they are what was passed for the
CONDIST folks:
Platform Submission Date Ship Date
VAX/VMS 1/13/95 3/17/95
AXP/VMS 12/30/94 2/24/95
AXP/OSF 2/25/95 3/28/95
I don't have the ULTRIX date.,
Cheers Simon...

524.8 | Anon-FTP? | CWBNGA::VONEHREN | Daniel Von Ehren | Fri Dec 30 1994 20:04 | 2 |
| Is there anonymous-FTP access to these files? It would be nice to see
that, plus a checksum of the file to assure proper copying.

Nope, but I suppose it could be arranged, I'll see what I can do.

shall make it available via anon ftp.

524.11 | Too late, what is the new date? | ULYSSE::WEISSBECK | | Wed Jan 04 1995 10:40 | 11 |
| Too late,
This MUP is already installed on a big client site, and this client is
not happy at all.
They discovered the bug with the scan in this MUP, and do not accept
that we have a so bad testing system.
Do you have a forecast for the new version?
Regards,
Jean-Marie

| Jean-Marie,
Did you get the MUP from the CSC or SSB? If not, then I am sorry, but
strictly speaking you shouldnt have given the MUP to your customer. Maybe
next time you will get it from the correct channels.
Our testing procedures are fine, they get larger every time we get a bug,
its called regression testing, you can tell your customer that this bug will
not reoccur because we have modified our testing procedures.
The new version will appear when its ready, of course, this time you will
get the MUP via TIMA from the CSC wont you?
Cheers,
Phil

| Phil,
I didn't give the MUP to the custumer, but somebody from the field did.
I am sure that this person though that it would help to fix the
customer problem.
This MUP is now arround for more then two weeks, and it could have been
sent to CSC or SSB.
Regards,
Jean-marie

524.14 | | OPG::PHILIP | And through the square window... | Wed Jan 04 1995 13:24 | 12 |
| Jean-Marie,
The MUP was submitted to CSERL and via DEC Std 204 the day it was made
available here, so the delay was not our fault. It does turn out though that
the delay was fortunate as we have been able to catch this problem before it
gets too serious.
The MUP has been reannounced and submitted again, so you should be able to
solve your customers problem now.
Cheers,
Phil

The release notes for the first MUP kit and the second MUP kit are the same.
Can you tell me what the most recent fixes are? I'm fairly sure you've
addressed the problem with not generating events. Have you had a chance to
address the problem with having to stop all console processes before
reconfiguring/restarting?
Mike
|
524.16 | | OPG::SIMON | | Thu Jan 05 1995 12:14 | 6 |
| Mike,
the only fix we put in was the not generating events as this was introduced
by the original kit. We did not spend time on other problems as it was critical
to get the MUP reissued. Other fixes will be dealt with in the normal manner.
Cheers Simon...
