Incidently,
Although I have "exit on shutdown" option enabled on my multiline
window, whenever I do a "@CONSOLE$STARTUP.COM restart", the window
stays there and a new one opens up.

ENS has crashed!!!!
Re .1
If ENS exits ungracefully as above then it does not deliver a shutdown
event to it's actions, hence they don't exit.
Cheers Simon...

re .0
Obviously PCM detects ens has crashed and puts up the error message on
the monitor interface. Is it possible to mail or have an interface that
can selectively update a SNS screen with an apropriate message. There
should be various ways of doing this. Both SNS and PCM are POLYCENTRE
tools, so there should (to my mind) be some ways of interacting between
tools purportedly sharing the same framework. (which I understand
POLYCENTRE to be?)
Apologies in advance if I misunderstand the thinking behind POLYCENTRE.
re .1
This behavior exhibits itself even when ENS is OK. I have just tested
it.

And another thought!
Re .1,
If ENS exits ungracefully, it would be better to let the window drop
and let you know something is wrong instead of lulling you into a false
sense of security.

| Max,
Yes, you can have SNS monitor the different PCM processes.
RE -.1, Not quit sure what you mean by 'letting the window drop'
If you mean having the event list window disappear, I'm not
sure if I agree with you, because all previous events would be
lost. I suppose that at a minimum, it should blast out a line
stating that the connection to ENS has been lost.
Cheers,
Dave

That's the best suggestion so far. Or even a big one shot window!

Max.

| Max,
First of all its POLYCENTER, and NOT POLYCENTRE, this is a trademark and
you should use the correct form. As for your thinking behind what
POLYCENTER is, yes, the various POLYCENTER tools should integrate, we are
slowly moving closer to that goal, but it takes time. Please bear with us.
Secondly, yes, your action should notice that ENS has died, this is a
bug in our IPC code. It is not going to get fixed until the next major
release of PCM as there is too much work to fix this for a patch/mup and
too high a risk of breaking other parts of the software which currently
work.
As for the comment about the window "dropping" I assume you mean that it
should exit, well, this is an feature you can customize the eventlist to
have.
The eventlist should tell you that it has lost connection, the title
bar/icon name changes to reflect the connection state.
Cheers,
Phil

Right on cue, as if to explain your comments Phil, ens has fallen over
and the scroll icon on the C3 window has turned red.
Funny how you (alright I) don't notice the window status bar in normal
use.

Max.
