516.0. "System VAX 4000 break itself !!" by TRN02::TESTA (POLYpCENTER !?!) Mon Dec 12 1994 15:21

Hi,

I have a customer with some VAX's controlled by PCM 1.5 from VAX VMS platform.
Last week, when one Terminal server was re-initialize from the operator, all VAX
4000's connected was halted like when we use Ctrl-P or Break command. Now the
customer is very worried because he needs 'break' available on CONSOLE CONNECT
command: what does it matter when the terminal server reboot itself? We have not
system test to try it again.

Have you any advise?

Regards.

Some terminal servers supposedly stop the behaviour you are experiencing.

I suggest that you check this out in the terminal servers notes conference
on TOOK::TERMINAL_SERVERS (Press KP7 to add)

Cheers,

Yep... some terminal servers when power-cycled will generate a break.
You mentioned that you had 4000 series systems. Many of these systems
hae the magic console command SET CTRL_P. This command allows you to
change the hatl sequence from a break to CTRL_P. A HELP command
from the >>> prompt will tell you if your systems support this
feature if you donlt have an operators guide for them. I recommend
you enable this feature if you have it available as it will not only
get rid of this problem but make your halt character consistent if all
of your other VAXen already use CTRL-P to halt.

This topic came up recently in the VCS conference and Mike (MRLAT)Raspuzzi from
terminal server eng replied that there was some sort of fix available. I mailed
him for more details and got the answer below:
