504.0. "MONITOR and SET WIDTH 132 problem" by BACHUS::WILLEMSG (Geert Willems MCS-Belgium) Tue Dec 06 1994 12:47

	Hi,

	Polycenter Console Manager V1.5 + ECO kit,OpenVMS VAX V6.1 .
	Customer has a problem with CONSOLE MONITOR and SET WIDTH 132.
	When he types SET WIDTH 132 on the command prompt of the
	monitor interface, new messages are cut off at 80 characters.
	When he does a PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN it behaves normal.
	Is this a know problem ?

	Is it possible to start MONITOR default in 132 characters.
	I put a SET WIDTH 132 in the CONSOLE$MONITOR_INIT.DAT file.
	The width is accepted via CONSOLE MONITOR but not via
	CONSOLE C3 and selecting MONITOR. It stays at 80 characters.
	Is it supported to put the SET WIDTH in the init file. I don't
	see him as a supported one on page 6-24 in the manual ?
	Anyway I also have to do a PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN.
	Thanks in advance.

	Rgds,

	Geert

Geert,

  Thanks for reminding me about this, the fix is in the MUP kit.

  And yes, placing the set width command in the monitor init command will
  allow the interactive version to start up at 132 columns, but unfortunately
  the monitor interface when started form the C3 doesnt execute the
  initialization file! Have you tried starting a monitor interface from the
  C3, executing a SET WIDTH 132 and then saving your DECterm settings.

Cheers,
Phil

 Yes, the fix is in the code, but I hadnt release noted it, hence the
 thanks. So you will see the fix when you get the MUP.

504.4set width problemBACHUS::WILLEMSGGeert Willems MCS-BelgiumFri Dec 23 1994 09:1914

    Hi Phil,

    I installed the MUP, but there is still a problem with the SET WIDTH.
    Suppose you have a CONSOLE MONITOR 'node' window and a CONSOLE CONNECT
    'node' window. When doing a SET WIDTH 132 in the CONSOLE MONITOR window,
    I get a 132 char window but the cursor always stay at the first line.
    Meaning the console output is seen on one line.
    Workaround is doing a Page up and Page down.

    Rgds,
