> Is there any Token-ring Terminal server(DEC or Other) supported with PCM ?
Not sure what a token ring terminal server is, please explain - What protocol
does it use etc.
> any plans to support any non-DEC terminal server ?
The concept of "Supporting" a third party device is not something we do as we
do not have the facilities to test. However, we know of customers who do use
third party servers ( in fact during FT we put in a couple of fixes to aid
this).
We have seen Xyplex and Cisco server operate correctly. Others are down
to experiment.
The most likely areas for problems are the TELNET options supported by a server.
To do the line checking we use the TELNET get status option. Some servers do
not support this (Xyplex for example), so we have to disable line checking in
this case.
In the end the customer will attempt to use the most cost effective servers.
We will always try to help, but that sort of support will always be "Best
Efforts".

| I mean a terminal server with a token ring interface on the lan side instead
of ethernet.
Regarding Non-dec terminal server, Do you know if we have to disable line
status in the PCM product or on the terminal server itself to fix the problem
of Get status support ?
Despite the restrictions of telnet get status, Is there any restrictions
regarding NON-DEC terminal server (token-ring or Ethernet) 6
Thank you very much

Francois,
I have had personal experience with some 3rd-party terminal servers
that *did not* fully obey the LAT protocol and we had some problems with
PCM. Since the 3rd party server was really at fault it is unreasonable for
PCM engr. to hack the code so it works with that particular server.
As for token ring let's use FDDI as an example. You could install
a FDDI adpater in the PCM system and hook that system to a FDDI ring.
Somewhere else on the ring we have a concentrator or 10/100 bridge
that allows us access to a DECserver of some kind. Since LAT/TELNET protocol
is supported across FDDI and the subsequent bridges/concentrators then
PCM would have to support this configuration. I don't know
if we have a server that plugs directly into FDDI but if we do
have one it would have to be supported too.
The best thing to tell your customers in my opinion is that if the
server fully supports the necessary protocols then it should work fine.
If they don't then all bets are off.
Regs,
Dan

You do not disable anything. PCM itself disables it's own line status checking
and all carries on as normal with the exception that line status is not checked
for the particular connection.
