431.0. "Clearing Character Cell Events" by CGOOA::VCOOKE (Vern Cooke @CTU (ITU Calgary)) Wed Oct 12 1994 19:23

Hello:

I have a question on the character cell monitor interface for Console
Manager 1.5-002 for VMS. Is it possible to clear the events that appear along
the bottom of the screen short of quitting?

I am after behaviour similar to VCS. In character cell VCS, you view the
system that generated the event in order to clear the event from the screen.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
						Thank you,

Vern,

Unfortunately, there is no way of clearing these events currently, I have
added this to my wish list, and if I get time I will slide it in for the
  next patch kit.

Cheers,
Phil

OK,

I have implented this, sort of!

What I mean is that the events will be cleared for the system
you have connected to, but you will immediately see a single
Console Manager event when you drop back to the Monitor interface,
this single event is the one saying that you have disconnected.

I will look at removing this extra event for the next version,
in the meantime, you will get the partial solution in the next
  patch kit.

Cheers,
Phil

Vern,

Its due when we finish it, but dont hold your breath!!

I expect that we will be putting the kits together during
the first week or so of December, we have a number of bugs
to fix yet and the maintainer of the ULTRIX and OSF/1 kits
(Simon) goes on holiday for 5 weeks shortly.

Now, I can give you the connect/monitor image to try out if
you have the time, just let me know.

I also think that I removed the extra event too.

Cheers,
Phil

    Phil,
Thank you very much for your efforts. I can wait until the kits are
    ready in December.

431.6CONNECT Great, how about VIEW?CGOOA::VCOOKEVern Cooke @CTU (Western Canada CNS)Mon Nov 07 1994 15:2210
    Hi again Phil,

In response to another problem, I ended up getting the V1.5-003
CONSOLE$CONMON.EXE image. It works great when clearing events once you
    connect to the node.

Any chance of including the same functionality when you VIEW a node?

    						Thank you,

431.8How PCM Will be UsedCGOOA::VCOOKEVern Cooke @CTU (Western Canada CNS)Thu Nov 10 1994 20:1317
    Hi Phil,

I didn't mean to be a bother, its just that the operators at this site
find it very convenient (with VCS) to view nodes that generated events.
The data centre staff that do not have Motif displays rely on the
"active" node list along the bottom of VCS to know when something needs
    attention.

The objective of my request was to ensure that when we cut over from
VCS to PCM (in December), the operators who use ASCII terminals will
have the same level of functionality they did with VCS (the Motif users
are going to have a real treat, especially with the improved event
    classifications!).

Anyway, I do appreciate the efforts you and your team have given in
    servicing my requests. Thank you.

Vern,

No need to apologise, I understand you and your users
have requirements which we should try and meet, however,
it may not always be possible with the resources
  available to us.

Cheers,
Phil
