Note 423.0 Problems sending break with PCM V1.5 No replies

Dear PCM readers,

I have a customer running PCM V1.5 on an ultrix V4.3 system. His connection
to his systems is thru a DS100 (obviously LAT).. He really likes the new
prompting that is done when sending a break signal using ^P, but it doesn
seem to work. What does work is if he redefines the break to so something
like ^X, and then connects, does a ^X and the system halts. BUT... with
^X, there is no prompting or turning back after the ^X is hit...

Does anyone have an idea why his ^P does not send a break, but defining a
^X does? He would really like to use ^P with the prompting function...
The systems he has connected to the ds100 are a 6310, 6420, and 6610.

Thanks in advance for any insite into this problem.

423.1Hmm I shall look into this.OPG::SIMONWed Oct 05 1994 10:1418
John,
     I shall look into this.

A couple of things though. Firstly we do not actually support the DECserver 100
as the LAT server. They do have limitations such as buffering which can cause
problems, although I do not see why this should occur. I will not be able to try
to reproduce the problem on a DS100 as we don't have any. If I can reproduce it
with other servers we will look into getting a fix, but if not the customer will
have to try to reproduce on a supported config. Secondly the ULTRIX version you
quote is also below the minimum supported version., again I will be testing on a
supported version and the same comment as above applies.

Also get the customer to instal the ECO 1 patch kit. Some work was done on
control key functions within the Connect/Monitor interface.

I shall be in touch ASAP.

Cheers Simon...

John,
I put a DECserver 200 LAT connection onto PCM V1.5 wuith the ECO patch
applied. Results as follows:

Break from Connect (default Break Key):

Message displayed and break transmitted if Y response given.

   Break from Monitor:

Type break at commanfd prompt message displayed and break transmitted if Y
   response given.

Break from Connect (ctrl_x as Break Key):

Message displayed and break transmitted if Y response given.

None of my tests showed the errors you saw.

Cheers SImon...
