| Connie,
Thanks for reporting these, I have added them to our bug list.
Regarding the "10 parameters" problem, which 8 do you suggest we
pass if the customer wants them all?
As for modifying filters, this is one area where the character cell editor
does not do everything the DECwindows editor does, this is known and I
think we documented that not all options were possible from the character
cell editor, the preferred editor being the DECwindows one.
>>These can be serious problems for system managers dialing in from home

I agree, however, how many people will be modifying their database from
home, rather, the dialup would be used to access the system in order to fix
a reported problem.
Cheers,
Phil

420.2 | A suggestion and an opinion ... | 29067::C_TOWNSEND | | Mon Oct 03 1994 17:03 | 27 |
| Hey Phil -
A few responses for you:
>> Regarding the "10 parameters" problem, which 8 do you suggest we
>> pass if the customer wants them all?
Perhaps the customer can make the choice - an informed choice if the
prompt offers "Select a maximum of 8". VMS is not going to allow us
to pass 10, but it is nice to have lots of choices.
>> Dialup access to fix a problem.
PCM is sophisticated product. I'm very impressed with the level of
creativity our customers are embracing the filters, and how quickly
they are being integrated into broad system management environments.
If a system manager is required to use dialup access to correct a
problem in a production environment, I feel the character cell editor
should be robust enough to meet the challenge. My view is that this is
not just a "nice to have" feature, but a "must have" feature. It is
also a good selling point because customers are using PCM for remote
system management - just like we advertise.
Well - that's my two cents worth. As always, thanks for the SUPER
SUPPORT you folks are providing.

| Connie,
Thanks for the praise, I have put both these
suggestions on the list for the next release,
we will get around to them as time/resources
permit.
Cheers,

| Note .0 mentions the following
> 2. When adding a Filter and attempting to specify 1 Event, the
> Event is not retained in the record. Example:
I see the same thing using V1.6 in character cell mode. If I go back and
do a MODIFY FILTER to add the event then it is retained. I don't see any
mention of this problem in the ECO for 1.6. Is there anything that can be
done other than doing a modify after doing the add ?
Thanks,
Marc

| Marc,
There were quite a few problems like this that got fixed in ECO 1
that did not get mentioned in the release notes.
Regs,
