Hi,
I have a customer who is looking at using PCM to manage 50-60 devices
with a roll out to several hundred over a wide geographic spread. The
devices successfully managed range from Alpha servers, Stratacom
switches, DECbridges and routers, telephone exchanges, etc. However
there is a problem which is causing great concern. I understand that
it is known, but can not find the relevant entry in this notes file so
here goes:
The two nodes for the intial configuration are a VAXstation 3100 model
48 and a VAXstation 4000-VLC. The operating system is VMS 6.1 and they
have tried two versions of PCM (V1.5 and ECO 1.5(?)). The problem
devices they are attempting to connect to are a DECbrouter 90 and a
CISCO 4000. As they attempt to connect via the C3 interface into the
console port they immediately get a time stamp (?) returned and the
CONSOLE$DAEMON process CTRL01 then drops into a compute bound loop.
They can only stop this by stopping the process. It is a consistent
fault that, in the short term, they are bypassing by dropping out the
DECserver200/MC and replacing it with a DECserver700 or Spyder as they
now these combinations work.
The fault has been logged with the UK's Basingstoke CSC (log no 74266)
and they have a copy of the SYSDUMP.DMP file and a Show Process
continuous log file of the event.
Any ideas of what the problem is and how to overcome it?
regards
Chris

Chris, If you can let me know where the system dump etc. are, I can arrange for someone to take a look at the problem for you. Dan, if you are reading this, this is the one we exchanged some mail about, so maybe you would like to take a look at it. Cheers, Phil

Phil,
The engineer at the Basingstoke CSC is Geoff Judd (DTN: 833 3503). He
has the dump and log files.

Phil,
I presume that you are handly Dan's request. I will stay out of the
way but would appreciate knowing what is happening. If you need
further account support (other than by the formal CSC route) - please
contact ERIC REIN (LARVAE::REIN) who is the account manager.

Chris

Chris, Yes, an IPMT case has been created for this too which will ensure that a satisfactory closure is reached for everyone. Thanks for the account manager details, I doubt that I will need them, I am dealing with Geoff Judd who is supplying everything we need. Cheers, Phil

Phil,
I've a lot of confidence in Geoff so I'll leave it in your hands.
BTW what is an IPMT?

Chris,
IPMT is the escalation system which is used to track problems for CSC and
engineering.
