406.1 | Perhaps, but... | ZENDIA::DBIGELOW | Innovate, Integrate, Evaporate | Fri Sep 16 1994 15:27 | 11 |
| Michael,
It's really a tough question because it depends upon the load.
My guess is that it should be OK. For the best performance,
look into getting a RISC system, running UNIX. PCM seems
to run better on these platforms, probabily due to the faster IO
system. In MRO, they are using a DECsystem 5000 with 32Mb memory
running Ultrix and are managing over 100 systems. The response time
is a bit sluggish, but acceptable.

406.2 | Doing it all the time | VELI::KORKKO | General nuisance... | Wed Oct 05 1994 23:56 | 17 |
| We (FNO OMS) are running PCM on a VS4000-60. And we are
monitoring something like 50 systems consisting of
* one pseudo
* 8 HSCs
* two DECsystem
* two AXP (DEC 3000-800S)
* 16 VAX 6000 class SMPs
* VAX 4100
* a bunch of various MicroVAX 3600/3900
With 80MB the system is running just fine, no obvious perf
problems except certain parts of PCM. Like sometimes the CONSOLE
MONITOR XXX will not just show the latest output etc. But I
grossly doubt that faster CPU would help...

406.3 | Try the patch kit | ZENDIA::DBIGELOW | Innovate, Integrate, Evaporate | Thu Oct 06 1994 00:18 | 8 |
| Veli,
As for the monitor output not showing up, this was fixed in the
ECO 1 patch kit. You can try running some of the performance tools such
as DEC PS to show how busy your systems is and to pinpoint bottlenecks.
Please keep us posted as to your findings.

406.4 | it is installed already and things got worser... | VELI::KORKKO | General nuisance... | Thu Oct 06 1994 22:13 | 8 |
| Well, we have the eco1 installed and I am not satisfied with
how the console output shows up in CONSOLE MONITOR or CONSOLE
CONNECT.
Anyway, we are following he situation closely and i'll be back
once I have something to report.
