383.0. "ARCHIVE during a CONNECT session" by CSC32::C_TOWNSEND () Wed Aug 31 1994 21:25

Hello -

Just had a customer express concern about ARCHIVE aborting if there was an
active CONNECT session during the operation. He's putting together a batch
job to run daily, but still feels there is a good chance that a good chunk
of data he thought was archived will not be.

The request was for a switch similar to /IGNORE=INTERLOCK for the backup
utility where data will be archived, but we know that a portion will not be
saved. Is there a chance that this is feasible?

  Why doesnt your customer execute a dialog which simply unlocks the console
  before they start their archive!

  Hmm, we could, but I dont like the idea of the integrity of the data being
  compromised, it could lead to all sorts of problems elsewhere, I'll stick
  this on our wish list, but dont hold your breath. Something which would be
  easier to implement would be a /UNLOCK switch to the archive command, this
  would unlocked the console (if the user had unlock privilege of course).

Cheers,
Phil

383.2That'll work!CSC32::C_TOWNSENDThu Sep 01 1994 17:346
Phil -

Thanks for the workaround. I'll pass along the suggestion to UNLOCK the
consoles before doing the ARCHIVE.
