371.0. "terminal open timed out" by BACHUS::FRATERS (Monday; victim of Sunday) Fri Aug 26 1994 15:08

Console Manager v1.1 on OSF/1 v2.0

Customer gets the following message when trying to connect to the console
of an other OSF/1 system:

	Terminal open timed out.

He's using a Decserver 90M.
/dev/tty02 is used to map to PORT_2 on the terminal server.
When he does a "file /dev/tty02" the command just hangs. After unbinding the
lat device tty02 with "latcp -D -p tty02",he gets the normal info of this
lat device.

I already undid his latsetup and configured lat again without succes.
Sorry, but i'm a novice with Console Manager and have no experience at all.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Felix.

    Stopped consolemanager. Unbind tty02.
Connected a terminal to this port on the terminal server.Mapped
    /dev/tty02 to PORT_2 and then "cat file > /dev/tty02" ==> this worked.
So i think lat is ok and there realy is a problem with consolemanager.
Also the "file /dev/tty02" gave proper information.

    Help please.
    Felix.

Felix,
sounds an odd problem. I have actually tested V2.0 of OSF with PCM using
a DECserver90M and got it to work.

One thing I would suggest is that you use the V1.5 kit rather than V1.1 as we
put a some fixes in that kit ( can't remember offhand exactly what).

It's interesting that the binding appears to have gone wrong as we just
system() the latcp command to do the mapping.

The only thing I can think is that the mapping is not correct.

If you still have problems after putting up v1.5 send me a text export of
your database ( using export command from the editor) and I shall have a look at
it for you.

Cheers Simon....
