367.0. "Manual RESET ICON COLOR Propagation?" by GEC013::ZIGLER (Tom Zigler 435-7979) Thu Aug 25 1994 21:23

We would like any icon color severity change to be automatically propagated to
all C3 displays for any workstation user logged into the SAME
Console Manager user account on a VAXcluster Server. However, we have
noticed that if a user manually invokes the RESET ICON COLORS option on his C3
windows display, the reset action does not occur on the other C3
displays. Yet, if an event turns an icon RED followed by an automatic
CLEAR, the CLEAR green color does indeed propagate to all such C3
displays.

We need automatic propagation of the icon severity color change for both
manual and automatic changes for all such C3 displays as in the above.

Can someone clarify this problem?

Please advise.

			\Thanks in Advance

P.S.: Running CM V1.5 on OpenVMS VAX V6.1.

    Tom,
Thats because you have the C3 set to display the color of the latest
priority event instead of he highest priority. Bear in mind the term
"CLEAR" is actually one of the event priority levels and not the
act of clearing or dismissing an event.

I beleive the feature you want - updating of the C3 displays on a reset
icon color - is planned for the next release.

Tom,

Doing what you ask would result in a potential for events to be "lost", by
that I mean not tracked! The correct way to do this would not be to clear
the icon colour, but to acknowledge and clear the event, this functionality
is really only available from the eventlist in V1.5 but we are working on
fixing this for the next major release of the software (this will include
an audit trail of the acknowledge and clear events).

The clear icon colour was really intended for you to reset the whole of YOUR
c3 to a known state, such as when you arrive at work and want to reset
everything that happened overnight and has been fixed. Of course the stuff
we are working on will also remove this need.

Cheers,
Phil
