Installed v1.1 of PCM on an Ultrix V4.4 system.

logged in to node "pcm" as myself (hanson) and su'ed to root.

    # setenv DISPLAY mynode:0.0

Where "mynode" is a remote decstation.

I then attempt to start the x-window interface to the configuration
editor and have it diplayed on "mynode".

    # /usr/kits/DCR110/bin/MIPS/console -e
Please wait, starting process in background ...
    # X Toolkit Warning: I18NOpenFile: Couldn't open file console_editm.uid
    - MrmNOT
    _FOUND
MrmOpenHierarchy failed, please check for support status = 2

I then attempt to start graphical user interface to PCM.

    # /usr/kits/DCR110/bin/MIPS/console -c3
Please wait, starting process in background ...
    # X Toolkit Warning: I18NOpenFile: Couldn't open file console_c3.uid -
    MrmNOT_FO
    UND
C3: Cannot open C3 uid file

I then ran PCM Edit> and did a add user for (root - this should not
have been necessary, but I wanted to cover my bases) and my
    login username of hanson.

attempted to run console for -e and c3 --> same errors.

a look in /usr/kits/DCR110/bin/MIPS shows the files console_c3 and
console_editm, but not with the .uid extension...??

    # cd /usr/kits/DCR110/bin/MIPS
    # ls
    console console_editcc console_extract
    console_archive console_editm console_review
    console_c3 console_ensd console_status
    console_conmon console_eventlist console_watch
    console_control console_eventsingle consoled

    What am I missing?

    Thanks for any assistance,

    tom hanson

(and one other question if I may - Why is the console command placed
in /usr/kits/DCR110/bin/MIPS and not in /usr/ucb or /usr/local or
/usr/bin where it can/will be found via most PATH's? Sure it's
simple enough to do a find and figure out where it is, but many
customers are just going to follow the v1.1 manual and "nowhere"
in that document is the actual location on console explained.)

| Tom, The console command should be where you found it and softlinked to /usr/bin. The uid files which it appears cannot be opened should also be softlinked from the /usr/kits/DCR110/... hierarchy into their correct directories (/usr/lib/X11/...). So, if none of the softlinks were created, I would guess that the install failed in some way. Can you try reinstalling (whilst you are at it you may as well install V1.5 it has a few bug fixes) and let us know how you get on. Cheers, Phil | |||||
| 300.2 | Will install v1.5 - thanks, | CSC32::HANSON | Mon Jul 11 1994 17:41 | 16 | |
| Hi Phil,

Thanks for responding. I will deinstall and reinstall and keep
a script file. (note: installed without a hitch, so not sure
why the soft links not there, but it goes a long way to explain
why nothing worked and problems finding the console command)

I would prefer to install V1.1 since that is what is on the current
Ultrix consolidated cd and is what my customers will be installing, but
I will install v1.5 by coping down from opg and see how that
install goes. Will V1.5 be on the next Ultrix consolidated cd shipped
    to customers?

thanks again for the quick reply.

| Tom,

Yes, the 1.5 will be on the next cd. It would be advisable to get
this to your customer if possible. There's a lot of bug fixes in it.

    Cheers,

       Dave
